Discover practical advice on race-day attire that balances looking special without sacrificing comfort, securing that precious ring throughout the race, and capturing the perfect photos without blocking other runners. The episode also covers essential contingency planning for weather challenges and unexpected race day issues – because flexibility is key to proposal success just as it is to race day triumph.

Whether you're a runner looking to combine your passion for racing with your love story or simply someone searching for a unique way to pop the question, this guide provides the perfect balance of practical wisdom and romantic inspiration. With Coach Christine's straightforward tips and cautionary tales, you'll learn how to create a proposal that feels authentic, meaningful, and perfectly tailored to your relationship – no elaborate flash mobs or drone shows required!

Speaker 1:

Hello, runners, romantics and those proposal planners, welcome to an extra special, sparkly, bonus episode of Extraordinary Strides inspired by Cole and Ashley. Of course, I'm Coach Christine, and today we're diving deep into the ultimate guide on how to pull off the perfect road race proposal. Whether you're looking for a magical finish line moment or simply trying to avoid becoming a viral meme sensation, I've got you, my friend, and I can promise you that we have got tons of tips ahead with a fab versus flop finish line proposal guide. So buckle on up or tie up those shoes, grab those ring boxes and let's dive on in. First and foremost, we're going to talk about our fab tip number one choose your moment wisely.

Speaker 1:

A perfectly timed proposal at the finish line symbolizes the start of a beautiful new journey together. Think shared accomplishment and mutual support right when emotions are at their highest. However, to avoid that flop pitfall, we do not want to interrupt anyone's personal best PR. Boston qualifying time. Proof of time finish. Are you seeing a theme here? If they're racing the clock, if they've been training for months, if you have heard them say nothing, but this is the time that I'm going for, I want to sub this, and they're not talking about public subs, my friends, if they're talking specifically about a time goal at this specific race, please do not interrupt that. Just even possibly considering trying to interrupt the mid-race or even at the finish line could be a huge pitfall. We don't want that flop happening at all, because misreading the timing can quickly shift joy into frustration.

Speaker 1:

Now let's take it back to our fab tip number two Pick a memorable scenic spot. So aim for a picturesque spot, like the finish line, after they've crossed it, of your first race together, or that stunning sunrise viewpoint mid-course or somewhere along the way, maybe afterwards at that finish line party, but you definitely want it to be Instagram worthy photos that are guaranteed to make your heart swoon forever, which means that we wanna avoid that flop pitfall. Number two avoid the port-o-potty zone. This should go without saying. Romance and portable toilets are polar opposites, so keep your moment fresh in more ways than one, of course. As we continue to talk about that, I want to reiterate that, while I just said, definitely pick something that's memorable for them, a scenic spot If you're doing it mid-course, please be conscientious of your fellow runners. My friend, we definitely want to be that fab proposal line kind of do. We don't want everyone and their mom hating us for ruining somebody else's race.

Speaker 1:

Now fab tip number three dress adorably, but of course, practically. Now this should go without saying. Again, customize race shirts. Maybe you even have a shirt for like the finish line that you change into personalizing your bib theming. Accessories that shout your love story are a must. Keep it comfy, keep it cute, keep it practical, because maybe trying to don that formal tux or that ball gown for that finish line proposal might make things a little bit more difficult. Maybe, maybe not. We know we've seen plenty of run Disney friends that run in ball gowns and are fabulous no matter what. But if you've never done it before, this is likely not the time to start. So that brings us to our flop pitfall number three you don't want to overdo your wardrobe. Sweaty tuxes or elaborate gowns may sound romantic. You may think that you're doing it for that gram life, but they may quickly become uncomfortable distractions. So keep your attire fun and functional, which is all about that.

Speaker 1:

Fab tip number four you want to recruit your proposal squad. Bring in your trusted cheer squad Friends, families. They could bring banners and signs. They can bring tons of enthusiasm to heighten the excitement and capture those surprise expressions which will help you avoid flop pitfall. Number four Do not block the finish line. Being tackled by exhausted runners is no way to start an engagement. Keep your cheer squad strategically placed off course to avoid chaos Again, we cannot stress this enough. Super important, but fab.

Speaker 1:

Tip number five capture the magic. Hire a professional or entrust a reliable friend to capture this precious, sweaty and emotional milestone on camera. You're going to cherish these photos and videos forever. Do not recruit me. I was way too nervous. I don't think I did a good job. I have some strengths, but this is not one of them.

Speaker 1:

But that said, flop pitfall number five it's going to be really hard to capture that magic if you drop the ring. So let's avoid that ring. Drop disaster at all costs. Secure your ring safely. Maybe you'll take a page out of Cole's book. You'll wear it the entire race, but dropping it mid-proposal turns romance into frantic treasure hunting. And if you think about it, oh my goodness, if you're running the race as well, you have to almost go back and do double the distance. Your 10K all of a sudden becomes practically a half marathon. Your half marathon distance becomes a full. Your full becomes an ultra. Let's not do that. So secure your ring. That might be a great opportunity to get into recruit your proposal squad to hold onto that ring very securely for you.

Speaker 1:

Now, fab tip number six plan that post-race celebration. You're going to be elated. You're going to have so much wonderful endorphins and you're going to be super happy and excited. You're also going to be exhausted. So plan ahead of time for that post-race celebration. Arrange a cozy post-race spot with maybe champagne or snacks and relaxing vibes, or a fun brunch location that your friends can join in with Whatever speaks to your heart, where you and your partner will be able to have a little bit of time to just kind of soak in the awesomeness that was that race and that finish line proposal. Of course, my friend with that said, we're going to ask you to avoid that flop.

Speaker 1:

Pitfall number six, which is skip the mile 22 madness, and by that I mean there are certain parts of every race distance that are a little sticky for most runners, right? So for the marathon, when you're in like that 21, 22, you're just kind of in that zone where you're a little bit just your mood's low, you're tired, you're not quite yet to the finish line. We could see that maybe in mile 10 or nine of the half marathon. So every distance has that. We're almost there, but not quite yet. We still have a ways to go and your runner could be a little bit dehydrated, a little bit tired, a little bit weary. You don't wanna dampen the mood of your proposal by having an emotional meltdown there. So it's not ideal for proposals. Save it again for that post finish line or again finding some place on the course that really speaks to your heart. Now, of course, as a runner, you already do fab tip number seven all the time anyway, which is weather preparedness. You likely check forecasts carefully. However, it's really important that when you're taking into account that the race day may be your proposal day, you want to have umbrella, sunblock or even cute matching ponchos ready. So nothing dampens your special moment. Bonus points if you have matching ponchos like seriously, that is quite adorable. But with said, we want to make sure that you avoid pitfall.

Speaker 1:

Number seven, which is forgetting your basic needs. So sometimes you're so caught up in the process of your proposal, or your significant other is so caught up in whatever it is, that they're chasing for their race day that hydration and fueling, while we know that you want it to be at its best for your optimal performance may not be quite there. So you don't want to be hangry. You may have been nervous and maybe having a hard time keeping fuel down. So please do take care of those basic needs. You don't want to be hangry or emotional when you're proposing and you don't want your runner to be hangry or dehydrated when they are listening to you pop the question Now fab tip number eight, my favorite, it's a little sweet kiss, and by that I mean keep it super simple.

Speaker 1:

Heartful proposals don't have to be super elaborate. You don't have to have a full dance squad with choreography. You don't have to have drone fireworks. You don't have to like, go completely out of the left field making it over the top. You just really want simple, sweet sincerity. It wins every single time.

Speaker 1:

However, we're going to also avoid flop pitfall number eight by always having a backup plan. Please, please, please, do not go into your proposal without a backup plan. You need a plan B because things can happen on the course. Maybe there's bad moods, maybe somebody doesn't feel well, maybe there was an injury or unexpected race day issues. So be ready to pivot gracefully from that finish line to ensure that your proposal remains memorable for all of the right reasons.

Speaker 1:

Now, with that said, my friend, I am super curious if you have your own tips, your own thoughts on race day proposals, because, again, it's always fantastic to kind of hear what you're thinking. So, while I feel like this is the ultimate fab versus flop finish line proposal guide to make your running romance sparkle and shine, I want to hear from you. So pop on in. You can use that phone number in the episode notes to shoot me a text. Let me know what you think about finish line proposals. I do want to say, if you are considering a race day proposal yourself, I wish you endless luck and magical miles for that big day. And if you love these tips, be sure to subscribe and share this episode with your running squad, or maybe someone special that's planning their own finish line fairy tale. Until next time, I'm Coach Christine. Keep striding boldly, proposing bravely and creating extraordinary moments every single step of the way.
